'Tropic of Cancer' on BBC 2 - Is it really all bad?

There is a show called 'Tropic of Cancer' that has been running on BBC Two for several weeks now. The presenter, Simon Reeve, journeys around the world along the Tropic of Cancer, highlighting the countries and communities that lie along it.

The show is generally interesting but one theme that seems quite prevalent is that every community that Simon visits only seems to have problems (drug dealing, corruption, pollution, etc). It may be just me but I rarely see beautiful wildlife, eye-catching scenary or thriving communities. Now, given that most of the countries that lie along this latitude are developing economies, I'd expect a fair number of things not to work perfectly well. However, I very much doubt that every community in every country along the way is merely existing through its problems. Surely, there have got to be some positives, somewhere, someplace.

Come on Simon, the British tax payers are paying for you to take a free journey round the world. Are you trying to discourage others from taking the same trip. Or are you simply trying to justify the free trip by showing it as being filled with hardships?
