JOB DESCRIPTION
- Provide expert legal, policy and thematic advice on refugee and migrant rights’ law, policies and issues, individual cases, and related issues to Amnesty International staff, sections/structures, and other Amnesty International membership bodies, including by reviewing and approving Amnesty International materials, to ensure accuracy and relevance, the integration of these issues into relevant Amnesty International work, and consistent and coordinated implementation of these policies and strategies.
- Develop Amnesty International policy, standards and guidelines in relation to refugees, migrants, internally displaced persons, and stateless persons to enable the International Secretariat and movement to call for effective protection of their human rights.
- Undertake quality research, including by organizing or participating in field research missions, to contribute to Amnesty International strategies for the protection of refugees, migrants, internally displaced persons, and stateless persons.
- Write timely and effective reports, briefings, correspondence, action materials, press releases, and other internal and external documents to contribute to Amnesty International strategies for the protection of refugees, migrants, internally displaced persons, and stateless individuals.
- Represent Amnesty International at relevant meetings, regularly reporting back to the refugee and migrants’ rights team, other parts of the International Secretariat, and the movement, and develop media contacts and otherwise act as an Amnesty International expert spokesperson on these issues to raise public awareness of Amnesty International and its calls for action, build support for concrete recommendations for change, and position Amnesty International at the forefront of the human rights movement.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of a comprehensive training and development program for International Secretariat and targeted sections, including by preparing training materials and leading in training initiatives for Amnesty International staff and membership.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Proven extensive knowledge of refugee law and international issues.
- Specialist legal qualifications in international refugee and human rights law.
- Professional experience in human rights or related field - professional experience working on refugee/migrant issues strongly desirable.
